This time last year, the Aligned Performance Social Run Club was just a wee dream. I had a simple idea: create a welcoming, accessible space for women to connect, run, and support each other. Fast forward to last night, and I found myself sitting at a table surrounded by new friends, all brought together by this little club.
We celebrated our first Christmas Party Run with a sweaty lap around Clarke Quay, spreading smiles as a group of Santas ran past, before heading to Café Iguana for tacos, margaritas, and laughter. It was a night full of joy, gratitude, and reflection.
As I sat there, I couldn’t help but feel proud—not just of the club, but of the decision I made in January to step out of my comfort zone and start this journey. There were weeks when just one person showed up, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel deflating at times. But I kept going because I loved it, and now, a year later, this small idea has grown into something I am so proud of.
The Lesson: Never Give Up, Even When It Feels Hard
Starting something new can be scary and uncertain. Whether it’s launching a business, creating a community, or simply starting a new habit, there will be moments of doubt. But last night was a powerful reminder of why it’s worth pushing through those feelings.
Growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone. By putting myself out there and staying consistent, even when it felt difficult, I’ve built something meaningful—not just for myself but for others.
5 Tips for Turning Your Dreams Into Reality
If you’re feeling deflated or unsure about starting something new, here are some tips to keep you moving forward:
1. Start Small, but Start Anyway
Big dreams don’t need big beginnings. I started this club with a single weekly run and a post inviting people to join. One step leads to another, and over time, those small actions add up.
2. Stay Consistent
There were weeks when just one person showed up, but I kept going. Consistency builds momentum and shows others (and yourself) that you’re committed.
Action Tip: Set a schedule and stick to it, even when it feels like no one is watching.
3. Embrace the Journey, Not Just the Outcome
It’s easy to focus on the big picture and feel discouraged when you’re not there yet. But the real magic happens in the process—learning, growing, and building connections along the way.
Action Tip: Celebrate small wins, like showing up for yourself or trying something new.
4. Surround Yourself with Supportive People
Having a community of like-minded individuals can make all the difference. The women in this run club build each other up, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Action Tip: Seek out communities or individuals who align with your values and lift you up.
5. Remember Your “Why”
On tough days, remind yourself why you started. For me, it was about creating a space for connection and movement. When you’re rooted in your purpose, it’s easier to push through challenges.
Action Tip: Write down your “why” and revisit it whenever you feel stuck.
Celebrate Your Wins, Big and Small
Last night wasn’t just about Christmas; it was a celebration of a year spent showing up for ourselves. We’ve built a community that goes beyond running—it’s about friendships, self-care, and committing to our wellbeing.
As we head off to celebrate Christmas and New Year in different corners of the world, I’m reminded of how powerful it is to take that first step, even when it feels uncomfortable. The rewards are often greater than we can imagine.
